Chrome Molybdenum steel plate (often referred to in the industry as Chrome Moly) is used for a wide variety of applications particularly in the oil and gas industry, the nuclear industry and fossil fuel power stations.
The molybdenum provides increased strength and higher working temperatures whilst the chromium facilitates excellent corrosion resistance and oxidation.
With such high temperature tensile strength and anti-corrosive properties, our chrome molybdenum is also highly effective in salt water applications. Masteel offers an extensive range of chrome moly steel plate with the following benefits:
■ major stockholding
■ global shipping
■ variety of plate widths
■ extensive range of thicknesses
■ quick turnaround
■ accurate ‘in-house’ cutting and profiling service
■ high quality steel from major European steel mills
For further information about our grades of chrome molybdenum steel plate please refer to the specifications below:
Specifications & Grades:
■ ASTM A387
■ ASME SA387
■ EN 10028
■ BS 1501
EN10028: Part2 :2006 is a euro norm standard relating to weldable pressure vessel grade alloy and non–alloy steels used in elevated temperature service.
The standard supersedes the old British and DIN standards. Chrome Molybdenum steels, with their higher temperature resistance, come under this standard and this section includes link to EN10028 chrome moly grades which are suitable for the fabrication of pressure vessels and boilers.
Chrome Molybdenum pressure vessel grade steels offers good corrosion resistance and weldability. We supply this material to fabricators who serve the major oil, petrochemical and gas companies.
Masteel stock EN 10028: 2: 2006 specified chrome moly steel which is shipped with test certification and stamping.
EN 10028 10CrMo910
10CrMo910, with increased molybdenum and chromium, provides greater heat and corrosion resistance than 16Mo3 & 13CrMo45.
Again the material is a pressure vessel grade steel for use in elevated temperature service. Masteel supplies 10CrMo910 to fabricators serving the oil and gas industry. The steel has good weldability and is offered under the EN 10028 standard.
Please refer to the technical information for 10CrMo910 below.

ASTM A387
ASTM A387 is the technical delivery standard covering the supply of chrome molybdenum pressure vessel alloy steel plates.
The introduction of chrome molybdenum increases the materials temperature tensile strength making it an excellent choice for elevated temperature environments. The material also displays excellent corrosion resistant characteristics. ASTM A387 is therefore ideal for the fabrication of weldable steel pressure vessels and industrial boilers found commonly in the petrochemical and oil industry.
Masteel UK Ltd stocks an extensive range of ASTM A387 Class 2 plates, which are available for shipping worldwide. Our plates are pre-tested to stringent standards which means in many cases we are able to ship to you immediately. Should you have more specific testing requirements we can arrange third party testing for you. Even in the event that a particular grade is not currently in stock, we can arrange shipping to you directly from the mill itself.
Either way, Masteel has a regular supply of high quality chrome moly plates available to you.
ASTM A387 Grade 91 Class 2
High quality A387 Grade 91 Class 2 – manufactured at some of the world’s finest steel mills, this chrome–molybdenum alloy has excellent resistance to high working temperatures making it ideal for use in the oil, gas, chemical and power generation industry applications. We supply to fabricators who serve these industries on a global basis.
Our plates can be supplied from our own stockholding or directly from the mill – all plates come with mill test certification and individual stampings. Third party testing can be arranged at the customers request.
