Since the establishment of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in 2000, China-Africa trade has reached record highs. According to data released by the General Administration of Customs on the 11th, my country has maintained its position as Africa's largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years. In 2024, China-Africa trade exceeded 2 trillion yuan for the first time, reaching 2.1 trillion yuan.
According to the China-Africa Trade Index compiled by China Customs, the index has risen rapidly from a base value of 100 points in 2000. After breaking through 1000 points in 2023, it reached a new high of 1056.53 points in 2024.
In the first five months of this year, my country's imports and exports to Africa amounted to 963.21 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 12.4%, a record high for the same period in history.
Agricultural cooperation continues to expand. In 2024, China-Africa agricultural product imports and exports exceeded 70 billion yuan for the first time. In the first five months of this year, my country imported 15.83 billion yuan of agricultural products from Africa, of which coffee, cocoa beans, frozen strawberries and other imports increased by 145.7%, 88.6% and 82% respectively, accounting for 18.4%, 65.4% and 84.8% of my country's imports of similar goods respectively. During the same period, my country's exports of pesticide preparations and agricultural machinery to Africa increased by 12% and 41% respectively.
The cooperation in infrastructure construction has achieved remarkable results. Since 2022, Africa has always been the largest market for my country's export of foreign contracting engineering goods. In the first five months of this year, my country exported 12.59 billion yuan to Africa in the form of foreign contracting projects, an increase of 46.5% year-on-year. During the same period, my country's exports of ships and marine engineering equipment, engineering machinery, motors and generators to Africa increased by 41.6%, 58.5% and 51.1% respectively.
The 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo will be held in Changsha, Hunan from June 12 to 15.
