AS1163 is an Australian standard for cold-formed structural hollow sections. Its full name is "Cold-formed structural steel hollow sections." This standard specifies the manufacturing and technical requirements for cold-formed hollow steel tubes used for building and other structural purposes.
The AS1163 standard mainly covers the following aspects:
Material Grade: The standard classifies steel according to its minimum yield strength (MPa). Common grades include C250, C350, and C450. "C" stands for Cold-formed, and the number represents its nominal minimum yield strength. For example, C350 indicates that the steel's minimum yield strength is 350 MPa. If better impact resistance at low temperatures is required, a grade with the suffix "L0" can be selected, such as C350L0, indicating guaranteed impact performance at 0°C.
Chemical Composition: The standard specifies the maximum content of chemical components (such as carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, etc.) for different grades of steel to ensure the weldability and final performance of the material.
Mechanical Properties: In addition to yield strength, the standard also specifies key indicators such as tensile strength and elongation. These indicators ensure the material's performance under tensile stress. For example, for C350 grade materials, the minimum tensile strength requirement is 430 MPa.
Scope of Application: The AS1163 standard applies to cold-formed resistance-welded hollow steel sections without subsequent heat treatment, primarily used in:
