Global Economic Growth Expected to Slow in 2026

Date:2026-06-17
On June 11, the World Bank released its Global Economic Prospects report, indicating that global economic growth will slow to 2.5% in 2026, down from 2.9% in 2025, due to factors such as rising energy prices, increased inflation, and higher borrowing costs triggered by the Middle East conflict. The World Bank also stated that it is prepared to provide $80 billion to $100 billion in support to affected developing countries over the next 15 months to help them cope with the crisis.

Growth Slows to New Low Since Pandemic

The report projects that global economic growth will slow to its lowest level since the pandemic in 2026, with growth forecasts for about two-thirds of the world's economies revised downwards from January's projections. By 2027, global economic growth is expected to recover to 2.8%, but will still be below the average level of the 2010s.
