3. Four Strength Grades
The standard classifies steel plates into four grades based on tensile strength; higher grades offer greater strength, though ductility and toughness decrease correspondingly. Selection should be based on the equipment's pressure requirements and design temperature:
Grade 55: Tensile strength of 55–75 ksi [380–515 MPa]; typical maximum thickness of 12 in. [305 mm].
Grade 60: Tensile strength of 60–80 ksi [415–550 MPa]; typical maximum thickness of 8 in. [205 mm].

5. Heat Treatment Requirements

Thickness ≤ 40 mm: Typically delivered in the as-rolled condition, though normalizing or stress-relieving treatments may be performed upon request.
Thickness > 40 mm: Normalizing treatment is mandatory.
